John Martin Companies served as General Contractor for Emerald Island, a purpose-built dispensary and consumption lounge in Island Lake, Illinois that brings a refined, hospitality-forward cannabis experience to the market. Working in close partnership with DXU on design, JMC delivered a space where regulated retail, guest comfort, and operational compliance all had to coexist without compromise. Built out across Q3 2023 through Q4 2024, the project required careful coordination between merchandising, secure product handling, ventilation and air-quality systems engineered for an on-site consumption environment, and the finish-level detail of a modern hospitality venue. JMC managed the full scope of construction — from MEP coordination and specialty ventilation through high-end interior finishes — delivering a facility that meets the functional demands of a regulated cannabis operator while giving Emerald Island’s customers a destination that feels more lounge than retail.
